1. Hmmmm…. I drew the Q so that others would see it, but I would definitely fall into the latter (introverted and awful at lying) category.

  2. What if you tried to draw it so others could see it but were too stupid to figure out which way that was? Bad liar? Or just stupid?

  3. Is there any scientific evidence for this? It seems to be a very large inference into character, personality and attitudes over what looks to me more like a test of geometric perception.

In my case, I tried to draw a Q as I’d expect to see it if I rotated my viewpoint 180 degrees, and I think it’s a stretch to see me as an extrovert.

    1. I’m the same. So I tested it on my bf, who is the biggest introvert I know, and he drew the Q the same way.

  4. completely right for me, extrovert, like to be the center of attention, and can lie the hind legs off a donkey if I have to, although I don’t usually choose to lie

  5. Where is the hard evidence? The research? Surely one who is an extrovert is the star of the show. Wouldn’t it make more sense that the “star of the show” personality type would draw the q so they could read it. They are more important than everyone else in the room. I drew the q so i could see it. I am certainly not an introvert and as an actor, a fabulous, and convincing liar.

  6. I am confused. I think of myself as an hard introvert (9 of 10 on personality tests) but I wrote it with the Q to the left. Maybe the definitions of introversion are different, or else you are using the No True Scotsman fallacy. I didn’t think introverts were self centered, just mentally drained by being around others.

  7. Mr. Richard, I think I’m a person aware of the consequences of my actions. before drawing the Q, I thought about either the two options should i choose. then, however i drew it without too much care. what i think is that one is influenced by his dominant hand, making him choose the same side because it’s more comfortable. maybe with an L is different.

    1. That goes for me too, I drew the tail to the right when I tried right handed and to the left with my left

  8. Oh.
I listened to the instructions rather than watched the video. I traced a queue all looking left. What does that mean?

  9. Really? Citation needed.

What does it say about us if we stuck out our finger, heard the instruction to draw a Q on our forehead, figured the end of the video was going to be: “Hah, I just made you look like an idiot for no reason”, and put our finger down?

  11. Like some of the other responses, I drew the Q so that others would see it, but consider myself an introvert (but not a bad liar ;-/ ). However, I also thought there might be a trick/trap that would catch me if I drew the Q backwards (as observed by others).

Regardless, I would like to know how strong this correlation is, if it’s been confirmed experimentally. Richard?

  12. Appreciating the commitment you put into your blog and in depth information you provide.
It’s awesome to come across a blog every once in a
while that isn’t the same out of date rehashed material.
Wonderful read! I’ve bookmarked your site
and I’m including your RSS feeds to my Google account.

  13. hello there and thank you for your information – I’ve certainly picked up anything new from right here.
I did however expertise some technical points using this site, since I experienced to
reload the site a lot of times previous to I could get it to load properly.
I had been wondering if your hosting is OK? Not that I am complaining, but
sluggish loading instances times will sometimes affect your placement in google and could damage your high
quality score if ads and marketing with Adwords. Anyway I
am adding this RSS to my email and can look out for much more of your respective exciting content.
Ensure that you update this again very soon.

  14. If I may add a thought to this long dormant thread:

I think this is not, at its core, a test of how convincing a liar someone is, but more accurately a test of how thoughtful and perceptive someone is, how much a person thinks of other people, their perceptions, and their reactions. Thus I would suspect “caring” people would, statistically, tend to write the Q in a manner others can easily read, while more selfish people tend to write the Q in they way they see themselves see it on paper.

It brings to mind that moral gray zone of the “white lie”, and therein, I think, the connection to liars.
