This is great.  Stare at the black dot on the lower right hand side of the picture.  Gradually you will see the moving grey stripe change from grey to blue.

Does it work for you?

    1. It’s an illusion ! It doesn’t actually change colour. As to how it works, I’m sure there are a few hypotheses out there with regard to the functioning of the visual system in the brain but I dare say no one at the moment really knows.

    2. Your ‘orange’ detectors get tired from all the orange and so stop firing. Thus when a grey bar comes along we see it as if it had less orange, leaving it a blue colour. You will recall the red+blue+green=white and orange=Red+Green. So White-Orange=Blue. It the background was (e.g.) Blue we’d see the orange for the exact opposite reasons

  1. I would say it looked all that blue but it was certainly not grey anymore … until I looked directly at it again.

  2. It actually works better for me after I close my eyes.

  3. I can’t even make it go back to gray anymore. Looking right at it it’s blue but it WAS gray, I think.

  4. Isn’t it just the after-image effect that we’ve seen in many illusions? When you stare at a color and then at white/grey, you see the complementary color.

  5. The first time I looked at the dot, the bar moved two or three times before changing, but thereafter it would change immediately when I looked at the dot. This must have been created by drug folks as fun for the mind on acid! 😀

  6. I don’t even.have to the dot. Just looking to the side area turns the grey, moving, bar light blue.

  7. It worked for me instantly didnt have to stare, and if i look around at different points anywhere in the grey area, the hue of the blue changes subtly very cool

  8. Howxy would you mind letting me know which webhost you’re utilizing?
