Can you solve The Grid?

I have just teamed up with the wonderful Luís de Matos and released a magic trick!

It is called The Grid and has taken about  year to develop.  Here I am performing it for ace magician Dani DaOrtiz….

There were lots of questions about it on Twitter yesterday, and yes, it does work with any of the numbers and isn’t at all difficult.  If you are into magic, you can buy it here.

Like the idea?

This is the one trick for which I continuously shooted mails to wiseman from t day I watched emc…

Now I can have it.. thank u

  2. Marcus Lambry says:

Is there a credit on the DVD to Chris Wasshuber?

Fantastic trick, and relies on having an amazing memory and working out in advance exactly where all the cards have to go. Most impressive!

  4. Mark_D says:

    What is 9 x 6?…. 42!

  5. D says:

I feel very happy to have worked out how The Grid was done! 😀
Much more satisfying than any of the Friday Puzzles! If you could replace the Friday Puzzle with the Friday Trick, which we have to work out how it is done, that would be the most fun thing in the whole universe for magic nuts like me. 😀

  6. Raymond says:

Watching the video the only thing I can’t work out is how Richard knew Dani had selected 42. Once he knew that the rest was straight forward.

  7. EddTheEgg says:

    How. The. Hell?!

  8. One Eyed Jack says:

Not surprising. We already know that the answer to life the universe and everything is 42.

I suspect that it is more than coincidence that lead Richard to select 42 for this trick. 🙂

  9. Dharmaruci says:

One Clew to working it out……the cards where never shuffled, even at the start, not even when it looked like RW was shuffling – he was deck-arranging.

Watch this for what you can do with a prepared deck and an excellent memory

    • One Eyed Jack says:

It’s not much of an illusion if it requires the other person to be in on it and assisting.

I would be really disappointed if that was all there was to this illusion. I remain doubtful.

    • Raymond says:

@Dharmaruci, yes I got that Richard was arranging the deck to get the Grid correct but Dani definitely did shuffle the cards he was given.

  10. On the second viewing, I reckon I’ve got the basic idea … and contra @Dhamaruci, the shuffle was genuine. I’m not going to say what the secret is … but assuming I’m right it all depends on one of the simple, well-established techniques in the card magicians armoury. There exists a particular second in the video that I would point out if I were inclined to give a hint.

At the first watch I think it was very good. Got a slight idea on how this could work, but will have to watch it again to check… When I have time…

  12. Anonymous says:

It doesn’t have to be 42. It will work with other numbers (but not any number) as well. In other words, you can repeat the trick with a different result….but don’t do that.

    • Per Strandberg says:

      It works with 22+n*4, n= 0,1,2…
But n>7 not good as the impression should be that the cards are numbered 1 to 52
Dani duplicates: You can only have 5 different numbers with a 48 card deck , 6 different with 56, 8 different would need 72 cards ( Phoenix Double Decker)

  13. Lazy T says:

    V.G. 42/42

  14. Tim Hart says:

I don’t think it had anything to do with the trick (maybe?), but why are there two “26” cards when Richard flips over Danny’s cards at the end?

  15. Kzummo says:

Will this ever become available in the U.S.?

  16. basquin says:

    D’avance merci .
    I confirm my point.
After having good look at your explanation, it lacks the explanation of your DVD for storing packets and explanation of the order of the cards.
Have you a link that corrects this forgotten?
    Thank you in advance.
