    Very effective, but if you imagine the shadow is an oil slick the illusory qualities vanish immediately

    Saw my first pic like that in one of my dad’s National Geopgraphics when I was about 9, in an article on spelunking. (Yes,they called it that then. Deal with it.) Over the decades I have never forgotten that illusion by that amazing crystalline suberranean water.
