Take a look at this 40 second video…….

Did you spot the change?

UPDATE: This wonderful demonstration was created by Kevin O’Regan and his new book, Why Red Doesn’t Sound Like A Bell, is out now

  1. That’s really obvious. Is there something I’m missing? The change is the really huge thing, but changing slowly.

    1. Likewise. I didn’t see it until I restarted to try again, then it popped out at me.

  2. I showed this one on a big screen to a full class of college students: no one spotted it until I showed them the first and last frame next to eachother.

  3. This probably would have been much better if youtube hadn’t decided to somehow send me straight to the end of the video at the beginning and ruin the change

  4. I noticed that something was gradually changing, but I couldn’t put my finger on exactly what until I looked at the first and last frames of the video afterwards.

  5. Just the big base changing colour, to a darker hue. Got it first time, but only just half way through. Am I missing something else?

  6. Only the second time. The first I was thinking that my computer connection might be off but the time was passing.

  7. Is anyone else getting the YouTube/Flash buffering circles fading in slowly from the beginning of the video? I thought that was part of it and jogged the progress bar around so I accidentally cheated. I’ve never seen the loading logo do that before though.

    1. I noticed the buffering circles too. I wasn’t sure if my internet connection was slow or they were included on purpose to help prime my brain that I was looking at a static image.
About half way through I sensed a color change, but it wasn’t until near the end that I figured out it was the base.

  8. The Illusion: Colors naturally fade as you stare at them. The color on the picture can be gently faded and you won’t notice it.

  9. Missed it completely the first time but got it on replay. Confirmed by replaying again and fast forwarding.

  10. I didn’t notice until about 35 seconds into the video. Even then I wasn’t sure so to confirm i paused it and switched back to 1 second to confirm and was right.

  11. First i thought that this is another trick and maybe a monkey is running through the picture and nobody will see them. Then i saw that somethig is becoming darker and darker. But i didnt find out what it is until i replayed the video.

  12. I hope Google end up reading these comments, because they make it quite clear that the evidence is in favour of NOT STARTING VIDEOS AUTOMATICALLY. YouTube guys, are you listening? When I open a video, I want it to start when I’m ready, not straight away.

    Rant over 🙂

And yes, I actually noticed the change, but only by trying to remember how it looked at the beginning. It was not easy, but I did eventually get it without cheating, as the video continued.

  13. I guess I should fill something out though I am here visiting. Many thanks for putting up great stuff. It’s asking for a world wide web web-site here when I’m posting this, so here’s one that I had been just checking out. Get treatment.

  14. Good – I should definitely pronounce, impressed with your site. I had no trouble navigating through all the tabs as well as related information ended up being truly easy to do to access. I recently found what I hoped for before you know it at all. Reasonably unusual. Is likely to appreciate it for those who add forums or anything, web site theme . a tones way for your client to communicate. Excellent task..
