I don’t think it’s the best ever. If I didn’t know it spelled “philosophy,” I would have thought it was p-h-i-l-o-s-o-r-j-l-y. Still rather cool though, once you know, you can see it.
Not sure who Ian Rowland is, but I agree with Paul Durrant that this is a John Langdon ambigram. You can create an Ambigram using John’s artwork that say anything you want over at the FlipScript site (FlipScript.com), but you can’t type in an ampersand so this particular design isn’t available.
I thought it was perfectly readable–saw both immediately. And honestly, much as I hate tattoos, that is a very convenient way to show it off. Might be a really great conversation starter!
That is stunning.
Stunningly dumb. The guy’s stuck with a quirky little visual joke branded into his arm for life. What a plonker.

Best ambigram is on the album cover of American Beauty – The Grateful Dead
Tried to read it on his arm without reading the text above it. I read:
- Art & sciFnd or Artosoifad
- philosophy
Not very readable…
immediately saw
art & science
philosophy
Since when do we have dots under the letters e and l. Also, what on earth does it mean anyway. Like to anyone?

Amazing.
Not loving the scarification underneath, eugh

Ambigrams are clever, not sure I’d want it on my skin forever though!
