omg
brilliant

First one didn’t really work for me but the second one is hilarious. The animation helps.

For once I’m years ahead of Richard Wiseman! Saw the Monkees/Saddam thing featured in a Fringe Festival performance several years back. It’s almost the only thing I remember from that performance, apart from the cheese.
October 20, 2010 at 6:47 am
At the Fringe Festival performance it actually worked perfectly. Unlike in the video, where it doesn’t. (Couldn’t actually watch the video when I posted my previous comment – I was at work.)
October 20, 2010 at 6:29 am |
First one is no good. The second one is good.
October 20, 2010 at 6:36 am |
I really like misheared lyrics. Try “o four tuna” (o fortuna) misheared lyrics. That is the most brilliant one.
October 20, 2010 at 6:36 am
It should be on:

Best of the lot! LMAO!

Well, monkeys had always hated dictators loool, but the amazing clip was the Shaolin Monk balances on 2 fingers !! love it
October 20, 2010 at 6:47 am |
As an additional to the previous, O Fortuna Misheard Lyrics is wonderful make !! love it too.
October 20, 2010 at 7:00 am |
Seen the elf one a long time ago, and it definitely works. The Monkees one not so much.
October 20, 2010 at 7:36 am |
Monkees? – Na
Obama – Oh yea! I had to stifle a crazy laugh here in the office.
October 20, 2010 at 8:10 am |
Monkee’s? Nope.
Obama’s elf? Awesome.
October 20, 2010 at 8:37 am |
The most funny one I’ve seen is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjr0bIsxLtE but it’s in German so nobody will appreciate it here.
October 20, 2010 at 9:15 am |
First naye, second yay.
October 20, 2010 at 9:15 am |
I particularly like a misheard lyric in Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ (the theme from Titanic).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=saalGKY7ifU – around 1:06. “I believe that the hot dogs go on”.
(There may be other instances of it in the song but I can’t bear to listen to it for longer than a minute-and-a-half.)
October 20, 2010 at 9:23 am |
Love Obama’s Elf….and Hurray! The Monkee’s bit worked the first time around (says a recent TAM goer)

Saddam doesn’t work for me, Oaamals elf is brilliant, though…

The first and funniest mondegreen video I ever saw was this one, of Nightwish’s Wishmaster (hope the embed code works on a blog comment):
October 20, 2010 at 1:59 pm |
No1) Wishmaster – could not even distinguish the real stuff
No2) O Fortuna – almost as good as Wishmaster
very distant No3) All by myself
not even competing No4) The Monkeys
October 20, 2010 at 2:38 pm |
Liked both of them! Very funny!
October 20, 2010 at 3:56 pm |
I came across this great misheard lyric the other day
October 20, 2010 at 4:08 pm |
Uh, no. The monkey’s one doesn’t sound like anything but what it is. It’s about the clearest lyric in Rock and Roll. The second one doesn’t really work either, but it’s not as bad as the first. Now Big Old Jed had a light on and There’s a bathroom on the right. . . those work.
October 20, 2010 at 4:28 pm |
First one doesn’t work at all. The “t” sound in “something to say” keeps it from sounding like ” Hussein”. Love the second one!

The best “Misheard Lyrics” ever, without a doubt….

I am a bit surprised nobody has mentioned http://www.kissthisguy.com/ yet!
I think the effect is even worse when English is not your native language. You are less familiar with common expressions, so your perception is more desperate to find “fitting words” in your limited vocabulary, and is far less concerned about whether it makes any sense or not.
