Yes! I can see it !
Would make a lovely anti racist poster!

  2. Shani says:

A hand touching its own shadow is my guess.

  3. Pikolo says:

    Fingers and their shadows ?

  4. got it straight away, but I was trained in fine art AND I have a particular love for chiaroscuro.

    • Nic says:

trained in fine art?? lol what a joke.

    • r says:

I saw it instentaniosly to. I struggle with stick men. “Fine art”‘s got nothing to do with it, it’s just some hands.

    • sorry? no need to be rude! Yes I trained in fine art, I went to university for 5 years thank you very much. The internet’s really just become a place for smartasses. *shakes head*

    • qwerty says:

“a place for smartasses. *shakes head*”
“but I was trained in fine art AND”

    • Brainiac says:

I have been told in the past that, I too, am a fine artist. My ability to color inside the lines is held in high regard. My fingerpainting skills are second to none. Perhaps atheistclimber can utilize the “fine art” skills for an honest assessment of my future as an artist.

    • How bout Engineering or Medicine? says:

Sorry, but I spent 5 years doing something useful. I can draw within the lines if i wanted to. i learned that before i learned the alphabet.

  5. Lizanne says:

It took a few minutes but as you said, once you see it it would be hard to see it any other way – clever!

  6. Brent says:

I saw two hands touching fingertip to fingertip after a few moments too, but what is the extra vertical white line between the index and middle fingers of the foreground hand?

    • Immysl says:

Think that’s the gap between the shadows of two fingers. But it has been covered in the middle by that finger, so appears as a separate vertical white line.

    • Dannie says:

It’s the gap between the two fingers “reflected” in the shadow. Hope that made sense(!) Otherwise that part of the shadow would just look like one fat finger!

    • Beautiful!

@Brent: The vertical white line is the gap between the middle and ring finger of the black hand.

    • lilabyrd says:

@Brent the vertical white and black line is the gap between the middle and ring finger of the white and black hand….or a hidden extra digit of either the white or black hand….and the one that has the extra digit is really an illegal alien who has started doing hand modeling jobs to try and earn “extra” money so as to have the extra digit removed and then blend silently into the rest of the human population and not get sent back to it’s home world…. or just a part of the shadow of the white hand….

    • Moooo says:

I guess that’s what it’s supposed to be, but why don’t the other fingers have equivalent lines? The space between index and ring fingers is just a big blob, as it is between ring and pinkie. Why are those the only two fingers that have such a long and clearly defined gap between them?

    • Berber Anna says:

It’s a shadow. The light source is probably up and to the left of the hand, so that it illuminates the gap between the ring finger and the middle finger but is partially blocked by the middle finger from illuminating the gap between the index and middle fingers. The gap between ring finger and pinky is obscured from vision by the ring finger because of the tilt of the hand.

  7. Andres says:

An applause 0.005 seconds before explode…

  8. Once you see it, it is hard to not see it. But if you don’t see it, it is difficult.
    Good picture!

  9. Vishal says:

    Hand touching its shadow

  10. fluffy says:

I couldn’t see it at all, so then I went to the comments here and now I can see it, and can’t un-see it.

  11. What threw me at first was the black thumb: its curve looked like the silhouette of an ear…

  12. Kris says:

I saw it immediately, but I actually don’t have any trouble perceiving it as odd splotches of ink.

    • lilabyrd says:

Kris me too….I can see the black as a row of hawks {neck and up} on their back with their neck, head and beak extended forward and upward…

  13. Angela says:

A white and black hand touching

  14. advodiaboli says:

Isn’t it the shadow of a hand that is touching a surface with finger tips only?

  15. advodiaboli says:

    Nah, can’t be. 2 hands.

  16. M says:

Saw the hand immediately, saw it was a shadow some seconds after that.

    • M says:

I am able to percieve the image in another way afterwards:
How about four strange faceless penguins standing next to each other?

  17. Charles Sullivan says:

Two hand touching, black and white hands.

I boxed off much of the rest of the screen with my {own} hands, and then it was clearer.

  18. Vikily says:

Simple and beautiful! I love it.

  19. LZ says:

I saw it (in keeping with the majority of other commenters, as a hand touching its shadow) instantly and was consequently more baffled by how anyone could *not* see it!

  20. lifes says:

Well even after reading all the comments I still cant see a hand.ha ha.

  21. Berber Anna says:

A hand and its shadow. Is it supposed to be an illusion? That’s what it looked like to me as soon as I saw it…

  22. j6nnie says:

    Two hands touching

  23. D says:

I can easily unsee it. :)
    So, what makes this rare?

  24. LordManley says:

    I can see a duck.

    No! It’s a rabbit! Wow!

  25. Helene says:

I love it! And, yeah, I saw it immediately ^^

  26. Lindamp says:

If it’s a white hand and a black hand, then why aren’t there more “vertical gaps” between the other fingers of the black hand? Ditto, if it’s a shadow or a reflection.
The ring finger on the black hand looks way too wide.

    • Flavio says:

      Good point!

    • chuck says:

I’m more inclined to believe it’s hawks or penguins than simply two hands touching, unless it’s a deformed black hand touching an almost perfectly-shaped white hand and, well, that’s just rude.

  27. vicki says:

saw it right awat as two hands, one black one white, touching at the finger tips like lovers do. can see it as black slodges on a white background just as easily.

  28. vicki says:

can also see four faceless penguins

  29. Livedman says:

When I first read the question and not seeing the image my thought was ‘it’ll be a face’ but when I saw the image I thought it was flying birds but after reading the first comment I noticed that it was two hands touching each other.

  30. Flavio says:

Well it’s a hand and its shadow… I didn’t have any doubt as soon as I saw it. Is it something else?

  31. Gregor says:

It’s a slug morphing into a duck who seems to be falling. And now after giving that silly explanation I can’t see it any other way.

  32. sidebernie says:

I had an instant gut reaction, and then took a few seconds to confirm it.

  33. Mr.Mrs says:

Four sitting nuns, saw it straight away, but I was raised a catholic. ;)

  34. vishal garg says:

came here to see what people were imagining,,,, lovely picture man!!!!

  35. eclecticjules says:

I saw within about five seconds (I squinted my eyes) a white hand surrounded by black claws. I then placed my left hand on the screen and it seemed to morph into a white hand holding onto a black hand.

  36. Norman says:

First seconds: Some kind of a bear claw picture.
After 2seconds looking on it i noticed the white Hand touching its own Shadow ;D

  37. [...] Any idea what this is? This is a rare and lovely image….. Can you tell what it is?  As soon as you see it you won’t be able to [...] [...]

  38. Steve Ulven says:

It took about a half a minute for me to see a hand, and you’re right, it is very difficult to un-see it.

  39. Jerry says:

Looks like a hand with its shadow.

  40. Suzyuu says:

I see a the fingers of a white hand touching the fingers of a black hand

  41. Jacqui says:

    Left hand and it’s shadow.

  42. SeattleSkepchick says:

Funny how one little flaw (the white line between finger and shadow) can be ignored in order to make our assumption work. Great reality check. I’m about to join the TAM London group for SITP…will remember the logic fallacy rules!

  43. Michael Kingsford Gray says:

Someone getting fried in a nuclear blast?

  44. Sally says:

I see a hand with the shadow of the hand behind it – so, for example, the hand could be pressed against a wall, with a light source from behind the hand, creating the shadow.

  45. Marcos says:

    Dolphins swimming.

  46. Jidapa says:

    A hand and its shadow

  47. Jim says:

3 emperor penguins and a rock.

    (A hand and it’s shadow)

  48. elevenses says:

Even had the PC upside down loool instead of rotating couldn’t think of any thing, so naif to say it is like something evolving!!

  49. Eugene says:

It’s clearly 3 paths converging from different heights, and a small waterfall.

  50. katie k says:

I don’t get it. I must be missing something. It looks like a hand and shadow, but I don’t see anything else. Is the hand all I’m supposed to see? Because it looked like a hand immediately.

  51. raghu says:

cant see anything.. no hand also!

  52. Jason Charles Bourne says:

    That was easy…

Its a hand, and his shadow….
