It’s the Friday Puzzle!

54

Congratulations to @Japanjin for winning the poll yesterday with ’68 other people can’t be wrong’ – it seems that self-deprecating humour works wonders on Twitter.

So, to the Friday puzzle.  the last couple of puzzles have been logic based, so thought it would be good to mix things up with something visual.  How many pandas are there in the following image?

Pandas_Illusion

As ever, feel free to say how long it took, but please don’t post your answer.  Solution on Monday.

I found several in about 30 seconds… however I won’t be surprised if it turns out I missed a few!

  2. Jonathan says:

You can see as many as you like. Remember – Believing is Seeing

  3. Lyvvie says:

Just the pandas and not the badger…right?

  4. Mark Payne says:

Quite an easy one! About 5 seconds…

  5. Honk says:

    About 20 seconds, I hope I didn’t missed one ^^

  6. Rob J says:

I can see a bunch, although expect any more than, say, 2 is simply pareidolia

  7. Lux says:

Considering that pandas are usually living beings of the black and white variety, as opposed to the rock face variety, then there’s only two. Abstract pandas though….well I can’t be bothered counting.

  8. Radu V says:

    10 minutes. Found:
    – a lot of pandas
    – a badger
    – an old guy
    – a fish

( while posting this i found another panda )

  9. TS says:

    Does pandaidolia count too?

  10. Briantist says:

30 seconds, almost missed the other two!

  11. Noadi says:

Assuming I’m not missing any about 30 seconds. However it’s late and my vision is a bit blurrier than usual from my contacts.

  12. Nick Sharratt says:

Longer I look, more I see. 3 mins and convinced I’ve not seen then all yet! Interesting how once seen, they become so obvious!

  13. Nopke says:

Hm, I see more animals and some resemble the head of a panda, but not the complete panda .and one of their heads are not really perfect panda like (lion?) .. .. and also a “seemingly copulating” set of 2 panda’s (what’s that with the high back! Weird the b/w panda on the left).

But I counted and pushed aside those ‘doubts”. Now we hope we learned to count well. It’s hard in english ..

  14. Roland says:

Ceci n’est pas une panda :-)

  15. elsie_em says:

I think the longer I look at it, the more pandas I see. It’s like clouds: if you look for long enough, you can see anything you want to.

  16. diavoli says:

As well as asking how long it took to find the pandas, it would also be interesting to see how long some people spent coming up with a ‘witty’ comment to accompany their answer (err, myself included).

  17. EmilyT says:

Several things that looks like pandas as well as the obvious 2.

    Also:
    Mole
    Sheep/goat
    Badger

  18. For some reason I can’t get that Panda jingle from South Park out of my head.

  19. Waldo says:

This one is better than counting sheep. Zzzz …

  20. DeepField says:

They kept appearing for about a minute. Then nothing…

  21. Tim Mills says:

At least ten minutes. Not sure I have them all, though. Excellent puzzle.

  22. Skepdude says:

Just a few secs for quite a few pandas.

  23. killyosaur says:

less than a minute to see all the pandas, but suddenly I wonder, is how many pandas or how many panda images? because one could say that the other “Pandas” are not really pandas due to the fact that they in essense doubling as other objects.

  24. Skepdude says:

I forgot to say: Oh my God it’s full of Pandas! (2001)

    Also: It’s pandaidolia! Haha!

  25. namowal says:

I found the hidden pandas within seconds, probably because I’d been primed by the “how many can you find…?”

  26. Gus Snarp says:

I’m convince there’s at least one I’m missing.

  27. Jewel says:

I saw several before I even read the text. I looked at the picture for just a few seconds. We’ll see if I missed any.

  28. Federico says:

It take me like three minutes found …. pandas!

  29. CybrgnX says:

It was taking some time to solve until I re-read the question…giggled madly..with the answer.

  30. mjr256 says:

    I found lots instantly.

  31. Tom Rhoads says:

Saw them right away, then spent about a minute looking for more. I think I got them all but maybe not.

  32. a minute, but not sure that I got them all..

  33. Navneeth says:

A ridiculous amount of them, I would say.

  34. DrBob says:

This is a trick, right? While I’m looking for pandas a gorilla waltzes across the screen and I don’t see it?? :-)
    Plenty pandas …

  35. Cosmin Romania says:

Too many pandas… but I can’t see any badger or fish :( But I think I saw a dog :)

  36. Jeremy Henderson says:

I’m less concerned with how many pandas there are than I am with the fact that the one panda’s head appears to be falling off.

  37. Jane says:

not very long, but I was busy counting pandas, rather than seconds ;)

  38. mrsben says:

How wud everyone feel if I told you Richard, my three year old Grandson found nine. He can only count up to ten. :)

  39. Lakatos Istvan says:

It depends on what you understand under “pandas” when you ask “How many pandas do you see?”.

  40. luna says:
